El Corazón por Dentro (The Heart Inside) was written after I saw a sculpture made by my dear friend Georgia Ray. The sculpture is of a cello without the front, and inside is a heart. This sculpture perfectly symbolizes how I have felt about the cello and my journey with it. I have always felt like my cello is alive, and I let it speak. I wrote El Corazón por Dentro to portray the feeling that the instrument is alive and that we musicians give it a voice. In the piece, you can hear parts where the celli make whispering noises and parts where the players tap and slap the instrument to imitate the heartbeat of the instrument.
